Establishment of the Cashew Society in Guinea-Bissau: A New Step Toward Processing and Sustainable Development

On March 10, 2026, the founding assembly of the Cashew Society of Guinea-Bissau (SOCA GB) was held in Guinea-Bissau, with support from the West African Development Bank (BOAD), which invested 9.15 billion CFA francs.

Key project objectives by 2030:

  • Increase cashew processing in the country from 10% to 50%
  • Raise workers’ incomes and create sustainable jobs for youth and women
  • Strengthen tax revenues and stabilize rural economies

The Minister of Economy, Mamadou Moujtaba Diallo, emphasized the importance of local cashew processing to ensure that profits remain within the country. The CEO of MAVEL SA, Mamadou Diallo, noted that SOCA GB will contribute to the development of the sector and increase producers’ incomes.

In 2025, Guinea-Bissau exported more than 250,000 tons of cashew, demonstrating its strong potential in this sector.
