Senegal Expands Access to Free Satellite Internet for Nearly One Million People

Telecom provider Sonatel Orange, in partnership with Eutelsat Konnect, launched the country’s first broadband satellite internet network in 2026. Stable coverage now extends to 99% of the national territory, including remote rural areas where fiber-optic infrastructure is not feasible.

According to President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, the project is aimed at bridging the digital divide and unlocking new opportunities in key sectors such as education, healthcare, entrepreneurship, and digital integration.

The company plans to install an additional one million access points as part of the Horizon 2050 program.

The rollout of satellite internet in Senegal is expected to significantly expand access to digital technologies, strengthen the startup ecosystem, and position the country as a regional digital hub.
