Deputy Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Dmitry Starostin held discussions with a delegation from the Republic of Senegal, led by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Stéphan Sambou, on the prospects for developing bilateral cooperation. The delegation also included Honorary Consul of Senegal Vladimir Dubinkin and representatives of the business community.
During the meeting, the parties explored opportunities for joint projects in industry, agriculture, IT, and education, as well as the development of tourism initiatives and the establishment of sister-city partnerships.
“Senegal represents a promising direction for expanding the Nizhny Novgorod Region’s international cooperation. The Ambassador and business representatives outlined specific needs of the Republic in agriculture, mechanical engineering, and high technologies. Our companies have already proposed relevant solutions, and we aim to respond to these requests as efficiently as possible. Other areas such as culture, education, and tourism are also considered promising. Students from Senegal are already studying at our universities, and we intend to further expand this cooperation,” Dmitry Starostin noted.
Particular attention was given to educational initiatives. The Senegalese delegation visited Neimark University, where opportunities for academic exchange and joint digital projects were discussed.
The visit program also included meetings at the regional government level, business negotiations, and visits to industrial enterprises in the Nizhny Novgorod Region.
A key event was a roundtable at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, where Senegalese representatives met with seven regional companies operating in agriculture and industry. Representatives of ANO “Gorky Tech” and the regional Export Support Center also took part in the discussions.
“During the meetings, we identified key areas of cooperation and outlined practical steps for its development. I have been in Nizhny Novgorod since yesterday and had the opportunity to explore the city’s historical heritage, including the Kremlin. The subsequent meetings allowed me to better understand the region’s economic potential. I would particularly like to highlight the visit to Neimark University — a true university of the future, offering broad opportunities for cooperation in digital technologies and education. I am grateful to the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region for the invitation and the opportunity to establish new partnerships. I am confident that our cooperation will continue to grow and strengthen,” emphasized Ambassador Stéphan Sylvain Sambou.
The delegation also visited industrial enterprises in the region, where they reviewed local technologies and production capabilities.
“The visit was very productive and insightful. We met with major companies operating both in Russia and in African markets and discussed prospects for joint projects. Initial steps have already been taken: fertilizer supplies to Senegal have begun, and further cooperation is planned in mechanical engineering and agriculture. We also see strong potential for imports from Senegal to Russia, including fruits, nuts, and cocoa. Such visits help identify practical areas of cooperation and form long-term projects,” said Honorary Consul of Senegal Vladimir Dubinkin.
