Interview with Alexander Biryukov for FBA EAEU

Alexander Biryukov is Head of the FBA EAEU Representative Office in West Africa and Mauritania, Vice President of MOES for Cooperation with African Countries, and a member of the Russia–Africa Expert Council under Deputy Chairman of the State Duma A.M. Babakov.

— What is the main objective of establishing regional transport and logistics centers in West Africa? What key advantages do you see in developing logistics infrastructure in the region?

The creation of transport and logistics centers in West Africa (and across Africa as a whole) will enable the effective localization of Russian business. Russian companies will gain dedicated operational platforms where they can access comprehensive support.

— How will the creation of logistics centers impact the economic development of West African countries?

Logistics centers will facilitate direct interaction between producers and consumers, eliminating intermediary chains. End users will benefit from lower prices, while producers will gain greater flexibility to respond to market changes.

— What types of new jobs could be created through these projects?

Special economic zones can be established around logistics centers, enabling the development of production facilities with the involvement of local labor. Such zones are already successfully operating in many countries, often with the participation of Chinese and Indian companies.

— How do you see the future of transport and logistics centers in West Africa over the next 5–10 years?

They will become integral elements of a unified regional logistics network, which is essential for the development of intra-African trade.

— What steps are necessary for further development of the logistics network in the region?

A strategic decision must be made, followed by the practical implementation of the project.

— How does your personal experience in international cooperation contribute to the implementation of these initiatives?

The experience and knowledge gained through my work in Africa allow my partners and me to develop clear and structured action plans that take into account regional specifics and mitigate key risks.
